Glasgow 2020 - Story Writing Competition

Background

Glasgow 2020 is the non-institutional story of Glasgow’s future. Through a series of projects, events and workshops it aims to collect together the imagination of people throughout the city to tell a new story about its future. Glasgow 2020 is a public project, constructed by the people taking part in it. All projects are covered on the Glasgow 2020 website, and in local and national media channels.

Write a story about life in Glasgow in 2020 and you could win up to £500!

What will Glasgow be like in the year 2020? What will Glaswegians be like? How will people live, where will they make friends, how will they move around? Will life get worse? Will it improve? The Glasgow 2020 Story Writing competition is a chance to write a fictional story about Glasgow in 2020. You could write about a day, an event, a place or a person in 2020. Christmas 2020? Hogmonay 2020? Haircuts in 2020? Pets in 2020?

The choice is yours. But first, here are the competition details.

  1. Stories must be set in Glasgow in 2020.
  2. The competition lasts from March 1st - July 14th 2006
  3. Entries must be between 500 and 5,000 words
  4. There is a £500 prize for the best story
  5. The first 100 entries will receive free Glasgow 2020 t-shirts. To receive this please include your address and preferred size (small, medium, large) with your entry.
  6. All entries will be posted on the Glasgow 2020 website and eligible for inclusion in a collection of fictional stories about the cities future. The winning entry will be published on the Evening Times website..

  8. The entries will be judged by an expert panel and the winner announced at the Big Dream on August 26th at the Kelvingrove.
  9. You can submit stories in your own name, or written with others.
